Suspect in Officer Involved Shooting Identified

Tuesday, 14 February 2017

One person is dead following last night’s shooting in Turkey Creek shopping center. Officers with the Smoky Mountains Fugitive Task Force were conducting a fugitive investigation on a man with warrants out of Blount County and Knoxville. The investigation led them to the parking lot of Pier One Imports, located at 11130 Parkside Drive, around 9:00 p.m. Monday night. Officers located the suspect, 32-year-old Brandon S. Lambert of Alcoa, and attempted to apprehend him. He resisted and rammed law enforcement vehicles with his vehicle. Two officers with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and one deputy with the U.S. Marshals Service fired shots at Lambert. (A KCSO vehicle was damaged during the incident, and no officers were injured.) Lambert was transported to UT Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead. His body was transported to the Knox County Regional Forensic Center for examination.

Lambert was wanted for theft, evading arrest, and reckless endangerment warrants out of Blount County. He was wanted for evading arrest, driving on a suspended license, and other motor vehicle violations from the Knoxville Police Department. He rammed a police vehicle and fled during a pursuit in Maryville last weekend, and evaded arrest in Knoxville on February 5th.

Last night’s incident is being investigated jointly by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Knoxville Police Department Violent Crimes Unit. At the conclusion of the investigation, the matter will be forwarded to the Knox County District Attorney General’s Office for adjudication. As per standard procedure, the two officers with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office are on administrative leave with pay as the investigation continues.

More details, including the names of the KCSO officers involved, will be released as they develop.
