Drugs and Alcohol Factors in Deadly I-40 Wreck

Charges are pending in a deadly crash on I-40 that happened around 5:30 Monday afternoon according to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office Reconstruction Unit.  Drugs and alcohol are factors in the wreck.  Notifications are still being made, so names cannot be released at this time.  The wreck occurred when the driver of a Toyota Camry, traveling east on I-40 at the 402.5 mile marker, lost control and went into the median.  The car went airborne into the westbound lanes and landed on a Honda Accord.  The Toyota came to a final stop in the center lane and was struck by a Dodge Ram 1500.  A Mazda B2300 was unable to stop and struck the Toyota.  A passenger in the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene.  Two others were transported by Lifestar to the U.T. Medical Center with life threatening injuries.  Everyone was restrained.
