U.S. Bank Robbery Suspect in Custody

The man alleged to be responsible for robbing the U.S. Bank, located at 8845 Kingston Pike, last Tuesday is in custody. 52-year-old Douglas M. Armel, Jr. of Knoxville was arrested by the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, the Knox County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit, and the Knoxville Police Department at 8:37. p.m. on Saturday at the Valley Inn, located at 3301 East Magnolia Avenue.

The bank robbery investigation was a joint effort between FBI Safe Streets Task Force, the Knox County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit, and the Knoxville Police Department. Armel, Jr. was identified on April 5th and a federal bank robbery warrant was issued that day. Information received by the Knoxville Police Department led to his location and arrest.

Armel, Jr. is charged with bank robbery and is being transported to the Blount County Jail where he will be held (with no bond). He has a criminal history in Knox County that includes the manufacture, delivery, sell, or possession with intent to manufacture, deliver, or sell methamphetamine; possession of drug paraphernalia; and speeding.
