March 2017 Officers of the Month

Friday, 28 April 2017

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office congratulates March’s Officers of the Month, Wayne Doster and Logan Sammons.

On March 2nd, Officer Doster initiated a traffic stop at Cedar Bluff Road and Interstate 40. The driver fled and after two pursuits, the suspect was taken into custody a short time later. The driver and his passenger had been evading law enforcement in Anderson County for an extended period of time. Several charges stemmed from the pursuit, and the driver was wanted for several other charges.

The arrests of the suspects were possible due to the continued effort by Officer Doster to patrol his assigned area in a proactive manner.

Officer Doster has been with the KCSO since April 2014.

On March 2nd, Officer Logan Sammons initiated a traffic stop after being advised by citizens that a home on Hidden Branch Lane was involved in possible drug activity. The traffic stop resulted in weapons and cocaine charges, and the arrestee told officers he had purchased the cocaine from the Hidden Branch Lane location.

On March 16th, Officer Sammons responded to a domestic call where officers located drug paraphernalia (needles) throughout the home. Officers discovered that a female there had been purchasing drugs from the same address on Hidden Branch Lane. Based on prior knowledge the officers had about the alleged drug activity from the Hidden Branch Lane home and the March 2nd traffic stop, a KCSO Narcotics supervisor was contacted and responded to the scene to interview the female.

On March 20th, a search warrant was served by KCSO’s Narcotics Unit and S.W.A.T. Team. at the Hidden Branch Lane home. Officers discovered two stolen handguns, Schedule II narcotics, three grams of cocaine, Schedule III Suboxone strips, two vials of steroids, three pounds of marijuana, approximately $50,000 in cash, and numerous stolen items at the home. The suspect arrested during the search warrant was a six-time convicted felon.

Officer Sammons has been with the KCSO since September 2011.
