Its Felony Theft Charges for Two after Raid on Market

Wednesday, 21 June 2017

Two business owners are in custody this afternoon after they were charged with felony theft for buying stolen goods to stock their store.  The Knox County Sheriff’s Office Organized Retail Unit served a search warrant this morning at Vinney’s Market and Deli located at 941 Virginia Avenue.  Yousseff Souam, 43, and Mostapha Hallabou, 40, are under a $4,000 bond each at the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility.  They are accused of buying thousands of dollars of what undercover officers told them were stolen goods.  Officers spent most of the day inventorying forensically marked goods that had been sold to the market.  Many of the items were cigarettes, beer, soft drinks, and Gatorade.

KCSO Chief Lee Tramel warned other store owners that the Sheriff’s Office was coming after them if they sold stolen goods.  Tramel said it was a problem that perpetuated the opioid crises in Knox County.  Many shoplifters steal specific items at the direction of store owners to help pay for their drugs.  This is the third raid of this type by the KCSO Retail Unit and Trammel said it won’t be the last.
