No Motive in Fatal Shooting in Powell

Tuesday, 10 October 2017

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit is investigating a shooting incident that left one person dead and another in critical condition tonight.  Around 6 p.m. a caller to 911 reported a black Ford Mustang was chasing a white Chrysler Sebring and the passenger was shooting at the Sebring with a handgun.  The chase started on Clinton Highway in the vicinity of Powell Drive and ended when the Sebring came to a stop in the 2500 block of Emory Road.  The driver and the passenger both suffered gunshot wounds.  Nineteen year old Cameron Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.  The passenger, whose name has not been released yet, is a 20 year old white male and is in critical condition at U.T. Medical Center.

KCSO is asking for your help in finding the black Ford Mustang, a 2006-08 model, and the driver, a white male and a black male passenger.  If you have any information, please call 865-215-2243.  Investigators have no motive yet for the shooting.
