September 2017 Civilians of the Month

Tuesday, 17 October 2017

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office congratulates September’s Civilians of the Month, Family Crisis Unit Victim Advocates Terri Lawrence and Khadijah Roller.

Lawrence and Roller responded with Family Crisis Unit detectives to a residence in September where a warrant had been served for domestic assault. Officers had to force entry into the home to check on the welfare of the victim and minor child. Once inside, the suspect was taken into custody without incident. The victim, however, was traumatized. Lawrence and Roller calmed the victim, who was initially scared and uncooperative with officers. The advocates provided a non-threatening, calming presence for the victim and made it easier for her to communicate with officers. Their actions ensured the victim’s cooperation and consent during the interview and evidence collection process.

Lawrence has been with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office since August 2011 and Roller since September 2016.
