KCSO Investigates KPD Officer Involved Shooting

Sunday, 12 November 2017

Timothjy Tillery

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Knoxville Police Department Officer involved shooting.  The incident occurred Sunday morning shortly before 9:00 o’clock in the 500 block of East Inskip Road in North Knoxville.  KPD Officer Vanessa Mayes was responding to a call for service on Inskip when she observed two suspicious people on bicycles, carrying multiple bags and a weed eater.  The officer approached the male and female and determined the male, who was identified as Timothy Tillery, was wanted on a Knox County outstanding warrant for failure to appear.  Tillery resisted the officer’s attempts to place him in custody and during the struggle gained control of the officer’s Taser.  Officer Mayes discharged her firearm once striking Tillery in the arm.  She took him into custody and he was transported to U.T. Medical Center where he was treated and released at 2:30.  Officer Mayes was also treated and released with minor injuries.

Tillery, who is homeless, is being held in the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility for aggravated assault, resisting arrest, and unlawful drug paraphernalia.  His total bond is $12,500.  Tillery’s female companion was questioned and released.
