Driver Causes Multiple Crashes in West Knox County

Monday, 11 December 2017
One person is in the hospital after crashing into multiple vehicles in West Knox County this morning. According to the initial investigation, a Lexus ES300 was traveling westbound on Pellissippi Parkway at Oak Ridge Highway around 11:45 a.m. when it struck a Toyota Camry in the rear. No one in the Camry was seriously injured. The driver of the Lexus was observed slumped over the wheel of the vehicle after the crash, then woke up and resumed driving westbound on Pellissippi Parkway, performed a U-turn, and began traveling eastbound on Pellissippi Parkway. The driver was observed driving erratically on the median and shoulder, struck two more vehicles, and continued driving eastbound. The vehicle rear-ended a black Audi at Lovell Road, went into the median, and caught fire. Motorists pulled the driver from the vehicle. The driver was transported to Parkwest Hospital and then transferred to UT Medical Center. The Knox County Sheriff's Office is investigating. More details will be released as they develop.
