More Arrests for Organized Retail Crime Task Force

Wednesday, 20 December 2017

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office Organized Retail Crime Task Force has arrested approximately 290 people and recovered around $60,000 in stolen property so far this holiday shopping season.  Four stolen vehicles have been recovered, one of which contained approximately $10,000 in cash and 15 grams of methamphetamine. The unit is in the process of seizing at least two vehicles.

The Organized Retail Crime Task Force was created to help provide a safe shopping experience for the citizens of Knox County.  Its officers are combatting purse snatchings, store thefts, car burglaries, car thefts, forgery, fraud, and other criminal activity that occurs during the holiday shopping season. KCSO Chief Lee Tramel said, “We’re combatting these crimes that are prolific during this time of the year. Statistics show us that the vast majority of these crimes committed are fueled by the opioid epidemic, and the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office are committed to fighting these crimes with the goal of eradicating the epidemic.”
