Two Men Arrested for Rape of a Child

Two men charged with rape of a child were arrested without incident by the U.S. Marshals Service-led Smoky Mountains Fugitive Task Force this morning. 48-year-old Mark Warren Lay of Lake City, Tennessee was arrested in Luttrell and 24-year-old Cody Lynn Wyrick of Strawberry Plains was arrested in Knoxville. The arrests followed investigations led by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office Family Crisis Unit.

Lay is charged with rape of a child and will be held in the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility on a $100,000 bond. Wyrick is charged with rape of a child and will be held in the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility on a $75,000 bond.

The Smoky Mountains Fugitive Task Force, which is sponsored by the United States Marshals Service, is comprised of officers from a total of 22 local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies across Eastern Tennessee.

The KCSO Family Crisis Unit investigates cases involving domestic violence, child abuse, elder abuse, animal abuse, and cyber investigations.
