April 2018 Officers of the Month

Wednesday, 06 June 2018

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office congratulates April 2018’s Officers of the Month, Conner Amburn and William Barnes.

On April 18th, Officer Barnes made a traffic stop on I-64, and the vehicle fled. A pursuit ensued, and the driver fled on foot when the vehicle crashed on Millertown Pike. Officer Barnes saw the suspect throw a handgun and a bag of cocaine. He and his K9 partner, Pido, chased the suspect and took him into custody. Officers recovered the discarded handgun and bag of cocaine, and confiscated additional cocaine and drug paraphernalia from the vehicle.

On April 24th, Officers Amburn and Barnes responded to a request from Major Crimes regarding a homicide suspect fleeing on foot from a residence in West Knoxville. The suspect was a person of interest in a shooting incident. While Officer Barnes covered them, Officer Amburn and his K9 partner, Thor, tracked the suspect and found him partially hidden under the crawlspace of a building. When the suspect refused to come out, Officer Amburn deployed Thor and the officers were able to pull out the suspect and take him into custody. Following the arrest, Officer Barnes deployed his K9, Pido, to locate the potential murder weapon. After a brief sniff, Pido located the weapon and it was recovered.

Officer Amburn has been with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office since September 2014, and Officer Barnes since April 2014.
