The Latest Scams

Friday, 08 June 2018

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office Fraud and Forgery Unit has received numerous calls of scams involving jury duty, warrant, and sex offender scams.  Identity thieves trick the victim into revealing their personal details by telling them they’ve failed to report for jury duty and warrants for their arrest are being issued.  The thieves also instruct the victim to go to a local retailer to purchase iTune, Netspend, Greendot or other gift cards.  Thieves are also calling victims and telling them a loved one has a warrant and they need to purchase gift cards to secure their bond.  The Knox County Sheriff’s Office will never call anyone over the phone to ask for social security numbers or bank account information.  KCSO also will never call anyone over the phone and request money or gift cards.
