Suspect Charged in Break-In

Monday, 18 June 2018

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit has charged a man for breaking into a woman’s house and binding her wrists. The house was also set on fire and detectives are still investigating that angle. Michael James Childress, 47, is charged with aggravated burglary and aggravated kidnapping. More charges are expected.

Detectives responded to 8808 Joe Daniels Road at 8:30 this morning where the victim, Jacqueline Whitehead, 33, said she heard a noise and went into the kitchen. There she found the suspect. They had a physical altercation, and Childress put tape on both her wrists. She kicked him and he fled the scene. A track from a K-9 led officers to 8747 Joe Daniels Road where they found the suspect and took him into custody. Childress has a criminal history involving aggravated assault and theft.
