Driver Rams Two Police Vehicles During Pursuit

No one was injured today during a pursuit that ended shortly after a woman rammed two police vehicles. According to the initial investigation, an officer with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office attempted a traffic stop around 10:57 a.m. on I-275 South at Woodland Avenue. The driver refused to stop, and a short pursuit ensued until the driver rammed two KCSO vehicles on McCroskey Avenue. The driver, 24-year-old MyKayla Padgett of Knoxville, was taken into custody at the vehicle. Her passenger, 31-year-old William Goins of Knoxville, fled the vehicle on foot, but was also taken into custody.

The pair threw drug paraphernalia out of the vehicle during the pursuit, and Goins was found to have three outstanding warrants.

Padgett has a criminal history in Knox County that includes schedule I drugs. Goins has a criminal history in Knox County that includes simple possession/casual exchange, theft of merchandise/shoplifting, possession or casual exchange of methamphetamine, criminal simulation, aggravated burglary and attempted aggravated burglary, possession of drug paraphernalia, theft, theft of property, robbery, driving offenses, criminal trespass. They will both be held in the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility. Charges against the two are pending.
