Inmate Charged with Attempted First Degree Murder on Corrections Officer

Monday, 30 July 2018

Talanda Yarbrough, 21, of Knoxville attacked a Corrections Officer as she was being led out of her cell for recreation time Sunday morning at the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility.  She is charged with attempted first degree murder and is being held on a bond of $150,000.  Yarbrough punched Officer Tiffany Brackett in the face and then grabbed her ponytail and pulled her head down.  During the attack, Yarbrough grabbed the officer’s pen from her uniform shirt sleeve and began stabbing at her head and arms.  Officer Brackett attempted several maneuvers to stop the attack, but was unsuccessful.  Security arrived and took the inmate into custody.

Officer Brackett was taken to Fort Sanders Hospital where she received 7 staples for the back of her head and was treated for other injuries.

Yarbrough is in the Detention Facility for aggravated assault.  She is accused of beating her grandmother over a cell phone.

Many times Corrections Officers are considered the forgotten law enforcement officer.  They, as well as Patrol Officers, put their lives on the line every day.  Video shows the attack on the lower left of the screen.
