Car Burglary Suspect Leaves Son Behind in Victim's Vehicle

Monday, 30 July 2018

A man who was trying to steal a car in South Knox County Monday morning ran when confronted by the owner.  What makes this story different is that the suspect left his 2 year old son in the car he was trying to hot wire.  Bradley Lee, 25, told Knox County Sheriff’s Office detectives that he ran out of gas and left his pick-up truck off Maryville Pike and Rudder Road shortly before 6 a.m.  He broke into a car parked in the driveway at 2904 Walmar Drive and removed the ignition switch.  The owner yelled and Lee ran.  Officers responded to the call and found the child asleep in the backseat.  Officers found Lee’s truck and identified him as the owner.  He returned to the scene several hours later to check on his son and was taken into custody.  When officers inventoried his truck they found a gun that turned out to be stolen out of Florida.

Lee is a convicted felon and is charged with possession of a handgun, attempted theft, vandalism, and auto burglary.  Other charges are pending.  Bond is set at $13,000 for now.  The Department of Children’s Services is investigating as well as the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.  No mugshot is available at this time.
