KCSO Officer Involved in South Knox County Crash

Wednesday, 02 October 2013

An officer with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office was taken to the hospital for minor injuries following a South Knox County crash this afternoon. Just before 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, a gold 2005 Hyundai Elantra, driven by 74-year-old Earl Patterson, was turning left from Chapman Highway into the Taco Bell parking lot. Patterson failed to yield to a KCSO cruiser, driven by Lt. Greg Stinnett, that was traveling northbound on Chapman Highway. The Elantra struck the cruiser on the driver’s side, forcing the cruiser over a curbed median, where it came to rest.

Patterson was not injured during the crash. Lt. Stinnett was taken to UT Medical Center for minor injuries. Neither drugs nor alcohol was a factor, and Patterson was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. He was cited for failure to yield.
