Recruiting volunteers for our SCAN Program

We’re recruiting volunteers for our SCAN Program—Senior Citizens Awareness Network.  We currently have about 90 volunteers who visit some 120 recipients in Knox County.  The goal of SCAN is to improve the safety and well-being our senior community.  The SCAN volunteers are uniformed representatives of the Sheriff’s Office and go into the community to check on the safety and security of older citizens who have enrolled in the program.  SCAN officers drive marked cars to the homes, making personal contact and providing home security surveys, crime prevention information and agency referrals.  You have to be at least 21 years old and pass a background check.  Training is 40 hours and upon becoming a volunteer you have to be able to work at least 2 days a month.

For more information and to apply call Sgt. Glenwood White at 865-215-5636.
