Hardin Valley is home the Pellissippii State Community College’s main campus. This campus is one out of 5 locations Pellissippi offers to students to attend. Pellissippi enrolls over 7,000 full-time students

Hardin Valley Elementary

Hardin Valley Elementary is very proud of their School Bell. The bell came from the old Hardin Valley School located about two miles west of our current school at the corner of Hardin Valley Road and Marietta Church Road. The old school was built in 1931 and during the 1940’s, one old-timer remembers “the bell was rung to call the little children in from the playground each day.”

School Fire

On April 14, 1978, the old school burned down and the 175 students there were transferred to Solway and later Karns to attend school. The only things salvaged from the fire were the bell and the flagpole. The bell was stored for 22 years until the new school, our school, was completed in 2000. The flagpole was given to the Fire Hall where it still used today.

1985 Homicide of Betty Joyce Brown

On July 20, 1985 the burned body of Betty Joyce Brown,aka Simmons, was found in the woods at 3805 Maloney Road in South Knox County. The 29 year old Austin-East graduate had been stabbed before being burned. Ms. Brown was last seen on July 14, 1985 between midnight and 1:00am in front of the Bread Box at Magnolia Ave and Spruce Street. It is believed that Ms. Brown was offered and accepted a ride from an unknown subject. Ms. Brown’s last know address was 2737 Tarleton Ave. Initial investigation indicated that when Ms. Brown’s body was found, she had been dead approximately 1 week. Family members described Ms. Brown as being a “very sweet and loving mother.”
