Purpose

Service to your community

As a law enforcement officer, my fundamental duty is to serve the community; to safeguard lives and      property; to protect the innocent against deception, the weak against oppression or intimidation and the peaceful against violence or disorder; and to respect the constitutional rights of all to liberty, equality, and justice.

I will keep my private life unsullied as an example to all and will behave in a manner that does not bring discredit to me or to my agency. I will maintain courageous calm in the face of danger, scorn or ridicule; develop self-restraint; and be constantly mindful of the welfare of others. Honest in thought and deed      both in my personal and official life, I will be exemplary in obeying the law and the regulations of my              department. Whatever I see or hear of a confidential nature or that is confided to me in my official capacity will be kept ever secret unless revelation is necessary in the performance of my duty.

I will never act officiously or permit personal feelings, prejudices, political beliefs, aspirations, animosities or friendships to influence my decisions. With no compromise for crime and with relentless prosecution of criminals, I will enforce the law courteously and appropriately without fear or favor, malice or ill will, never employing unnecessary force or violence and never accepting gratuities.

I recognize the badge of my office as a symbol of public faith, and I accept it as a public trust to be held so long as I am true to the ethics of police service. I will never engage in acts of corruption or bribery, nor will I condone such acts by other police officers. I will cooperate with all legally authorized agencies and their representatives in the pursuit of justice.

I know that I alone am responsible for my own standard of professional performance and will take every reasonable opportunity to enhance and improve my level of knowledge and competence.

I will constantly strive to achieve these objectives and ideals, dedicating myself before God to my chosen profession… law enforcement.

KCSO is a large agency with a ton of different opportunities. There are so many ways to advance within the agency including promotions or by joining a special team. We have a great training staff whether it’s corrections, patrol, support services, forensics, or whatever position you may consider. For those who wish to laterally transfer we also offer accelerated opportunities where you would do abbreviated courses such as FTO so you could get to work on your own much quicker. Your time and experience matters to KCSO, and we have taken steps to be competitive with starting salaries under the current administration.

In my 19 years at KCSO, I have been able to hit my goals on time. I have been fortunate enough to work in Corrections, Patrol, Narcotics, and Training. I have also been through SORT, SWAT, and K9 training. Each one of those positions were easily obtainable, and I would encourage anyone to take advantage of opportunities a large agency like ours offers.

Logan Sammons

Detectives

I have been employed with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office since September of 2011. In that time, I have been blessed and benefitted from opportunities that come with working for one of the largest Sheriff’s Office in the state of Tennessee!

I was assigned to our patrol division from 2014 until 2020 when I was promoted to a detective. My patrol time is where I truly learned firsthand what type of community I served. I witnessed people on their worst day and was able to show compassion, support, and guidance on their difficult times. I was able to enforce the laws of this state with pride, integrity, swift action and unbiased opinion knowing that my administration would stand beside me, and the community behind me!

Knox County is an amazing place with overwhelming support for our law enforcement officers. We have created a sense of community trust that allows us to do our jobs and protect this community effectively and efficiently. We are trained professionals who take pride in the badge and uniform we wear and truly understand what it means to be a public servant.

Kelly Talbot

Patrol

I began my police career in October of 1998. I worked in the Chicago suburbs in a town called Romeoville for 23 years. I had a wonderful career that allowed me to work patrol for ten years. I then went into the local high school for five years and doubled as a full-time detective working all major crimes. During my time as an officer I became a Field Training Officer and was instrumental in revamping our in-house training program. My degree in communications and writing allowed me the experience to re-write many of our in-house training manuals and policy and procedures. The last 13 years of my career were spent as a full-time detective. As an investigator, I worked cases that included child exploitation, domestic violence, homicides, sudden child deaths and other violent crimes. My last five years of my career, I advanced my skills in becoming proficient in cell phone forensics and analytics to better support the cases we investigated in the detectives division. I was very blessed to have the wonderful career I had in Illinois. I chose to retire after 23 years of service because of recent laws that were passed, presenting danger to myself and my fellow brothers and sisters in blue. Although I miss my family in blue back in Illinois, I am happy I took the risk to start anew. I look forward to the opportunities KCSO may have to offer me as I head into my second career in law enforcement.
