The Knox County Sheriff’s Underwater Recovery Team (SURT) originated in 1992. Officers that make up the SURT team come from every aspect of the Sheriff’s Office. All members are cross trained as divers and shore technicians. The team also has a compliment of two Emergency Medical Technicians that are also divers/shore technicians, watching out for any medical needs of the team. The team is routinely called upon for evidence and body recovery in the waters of Knox County, surrounding counties and adjoining states.
