Chief Evans has worked as a K-9 handler on Patrol, a K-9 Trainer, Patrol Officer, Patrol Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant, Patrol Captain and FTO Commander, and Mobile Field Force Commander.
Chief Matt Evans is a Knoxville native, who graduated from Powell High School in 1991. He started his career in Law Enforcement in 1993 with the Knoxville Police Department where he was a patrol officer and K-9 Handler. He then moved to Atlanta, Georgia to join the Cobb County Police Department as a police officer. After returning to Knoxville in 2003, he began working at The Knox County Sheriff’s Office as a corrections officer until August 2004 when he was promoted to patrol, then graduated the K-9 Handlers Program in 2006.
Chief Evans has completed thousands of hours of specialized training in the fields of law enforcement, patrol, special operations, and canine. He is a recent graduate from the FBI National Academy Session 283 and completed the Yellow Brick Road Physical Fitness Challenge.
He is a loving husband to his wife of 9 years and the proud father of his 2 children, Miranda and MiKaela.
On July 20, 1985 the burned body of Betty Joyce Brown,aka Simmons, was found in the woods at 3805 Maloney Road in South Knox County. The 29 year old Austin-East graduate had been stabbed before being burned. Ms. Brown was last seen on July 14, 1985 between midnight and 1:00am in front of the Bread Box at Magnolia Ave and Spruce Street. It is believed that Ms. Brown was offered and accepted a ride from an unknown subject. Ms. Brown’s last know address was 2737 Tarleton Ave. Initial investigation indicated that when Ms. Brown’s body was found, she had been dead approximately 1 week. Family members described Ms. Brown as being a “very sweet and loving mother.”
