Sheriff Spangler Media Release
October 13, 2020
I became aware of potential inappropriate conduct by a Knox County Sheriff’s Office CIVILIAN employee on April 20, 2020. My Deputies made me aware of the possible misconduct after recovering a vehicle that had been reported stolen and questioning the suspect who was found in possession of that vehicle. After learning of this, I immediately consulted with District Attorney Charme Allen and requested that she have The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation investigate this matter. I made that request to assure public confidence in the outcome of the investigation. As we have learned today, Mr Kidd has pled guilty to Official Misconduct which is a Class E Felony.
As I have stated before, there truly are no words to describe my disappointment. I promised each of you that I would be honest, forthright, and transparent when elected. As painful as situations involving misconduct are, it is important to the integrity of the Agency and for every honest, hardworking man and woman of the Knox County Sheriffs Office that I do everything within my power to appropriately handle situations as openly and timely as possible.
I want to close with this, the overwhelming number of men and women in the Knox County Sheriffs Office are hardworking public servants who take their oath and our mission seriously. I assure each citizen that these men and women will continue to do their jobs with Honor and Integrity. Rest assured that this type of behavior will not be tolerated as long as I am Sheriff of Knox County.
