On October 24, 2024, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit received the Top Narcotics Unit Award from the Tennessee Narcotics Officers Association.
This recognition was based on the unit’s exceptional performance in narcotics seizures and a significant regional impact on overdose deaths.
The KCSO Narcotics Unit works closely with the KCSO Overdose Task Force, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s 313 Initiative, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation to deter untold amounts of fentanyl and methamphetamine from being distributed in Knox County. In the 1st 10 months of 2024, the Knox County investigators seized over 50 pounds of fentanyl, 25 pounds of methamphetamine, 3 pounds of cocaine, 3 pounds of MDMA, over 150 firearms seized from convicted felons and drug traffickers, initiated over 30 federal prosecutions and more than 120 state prosecutions.
The collaborative efforts led by KCSO and supported by assisting agencies, led to an estimated 26% decrease in overdose deaths in Knox County between January 1 and October 31, 2024, compared to the previous year.
The dedication and sacrifice of these KCSO Narcotics and Overdose Task Force Detectives demonstrate an unwavering commitment, sacrificing personal time with families to answer calls at any hour, reinforcing their devotion to serving and protecting the community.
“On the rare occasion we post about our special units, we want to give them the upmost praise on what they do to help so many without the need for social publication.”
