At approximately 9:56 a.m., the Knox County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a potential bomb threat at Carter Middle School after a threatening message was discovered written on a bathroom wall.

Out of an abundance of caution, school administers relocated students were relocated to the football field at approximately 10:25 a.m. while KCSO K-9 teams, including Sergeant Wallace and Deputy Bowers, conducted a thorough sweep of the school for any potential threats.

After the building was cleared, students were permitted to reenter the school at approximately 11:27 a.m. Students were outside for approximately 50-55 minutes.

Upon reentry, several students exhibited signs of heat-related illness. Various EMS units responded promptly to evaluate and provide care to those students.

Juvenile detectives from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office are investigating are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the threat.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office takes every threat involving the safety of our schools seriously. We appreciate the cooperation of Carter Middle School administrators, staff, students, and our emergency response partners throughout this incident.
