The Knox County Sheriff’s Office has received complaints from citizens that they are being pulled over and asked for their “letter of authorization” to travel.

Sheriff Tom Spangler wants to make it clear to the citizens he has NOT authorized ANY of his Deputies to make stops to request this documentation.

Sheriff Spangler is asking for the public’s assistance, if you are stopped and asked for a “letter of Authorization” to travel, please REQUEST the Officer’s Identification, badge number and what AGENCY they work for.

You’re being asked to contact 865-215-2243 with that information.  Or you may email Crimetips@KnoxSheriff.org
