Overnight Pursuit with Suspect firing at officers

n February 24, 2021 at approximately 2:27 am a Knox County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Officer attempted a traffic stop on a Ford Explorer traveling East bound on Kingston Pike. The vehicle failed to stop for the Officer, and almost immediately shots were fired at the Officer.
A pursuit was initiated, and additional shots were fired at a Officers. The pursuit continued East bound through Knox County, Sevier, Jefferson and ended in Hamblen County. After spike strips were deployed a Patrolman was able to safely and successfully utilize the PIT maneuver to stop the suspects. Once the vehicle was stopped, with the assistance of THP, Sevier, Jefferson, Hamblen Counties and White Pine Police Department, two suspects were taken into custody at approximately 3:04 am, without further incident.
The following suspects will be transported back to Knox County. Danny Kevin Chavis 55, of Loudon Co. Paige Nicole Nicholson 38, of Loudon County.
Multiple Charges will be forthcoming-
Sheriff Tom Spangler and Chief Deputy Bernie Lyon would like to publicly thank each agency and their Patrol Units that responded so quickly to render assistance to KCSO.
The investigation remains active at this hour. We will provide updates to include charges and bond amounts in a later release. – KG
