Mr. Whetstone,
Below is the Sheriff’s response:
As I am sure you know, POST has been onsite since you initiated the complaint. However, Jerry Glenn is a bonded Deputy who does not fall under the jurisdiction of POST – like Reserve Captain Eric Edlin, who you featured on the front page of Monday’s paper and many others of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
As you repeatedly mentioned in your targeting and biased article, Jerry Glenn was on the search warrant for the catalytic converter case, as was our other Fire and Explosives Investigator. Their supervisor asked the two to assist primarily because we had information that hazardous/flammable materials were being stored in the warehouse. Both our Fire and Explosives Investigators have State and National Certifications; as to your question regarding Jerry Glenn clearing the building, he has been adequately trained to do so. You must understand that Investigator Glenn and Reserve Captain Edlin operate at my discretion and the discretion of their chain of command.
Jerry Glenn’s employment status remains unchanged, and he will stay in his current position until at least my term as Sheriff is over.
While I am sure targeting members of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office to discredit them or me is a top priority to you and your paper, answering your questions on how I choose to run the Knox County Sheriff’s Office is not a priority for me. Therefore, if you have an actual public records request, submit it in the future. Neither I nor anyone from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office will answer your questions or make any more comments or statements about these two individuals. My priority is the citizen’s safety and the daily operations at the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
Tom Spangler, Sheriff
